I want: June

Happy June 1st, my lovelies. The month of June has so many intrinsic associations for me. As kids we looked forward to June all year long--the last few weeks of school soon to be followed by long summer days and evenings drenched in the warm sun. June is always, in my mind, the very start of summer. The beginning of pool parties and cloudless skies, the time when the smell of sunscreen wafts gently through the air and people begin to smile more. It's also my birthday month, which makes it even more special. Now as an adult, the thought of a new summer beginning still brings me giddy joy.

This month we will be 4 months away from our wedding. 4 months! That seems right around the corner, and at the same time, a million years away.

This is going to be a very special summer for me--filled with firsts and onlys. I'll be attending my Bridal Shower this summer and my Bchelorette Party! Plus I'll be having my Dress Fitting in a few weeks too! And an ever-growing list of DIY wedding projects that will consume every free weekend moment. On top of that, I've signed up for an Introduction to Graphic Design Course at Otis College of Design in LA. My company is actually covering the cost of the course for me! I feel very blessed by this opportunity, so I had to jump on it. I'm so thrilled to be back inside a classroom and adding new talents to my skill set. My first class is tomorrow and I'm thoroughly looking forward to it.

I feel so happy and content as we move into the summer of 2012 and I am bursting with excitement as I look forward to all these amazing experiences and celebrations I will be having soon.

What is your favorite part about Summer? Do you have Summer traditions or memories that make you grin ear to ear?

Here's a few summer essentials I'll be keeping by my side now that June has begun.

1. I bought these Steve Madden Gladiator sandals and just love them! Comfy with a bit of glamour, great peeking out from any maxi-dress. DSW $39.95
2. I love this beach bag for the summer--a great mix of woven textures and rope, plus a pop of color.
Gap $69.95
3. I'm in love with Ikat this season. This bright and lightweight scarf is the perfect accessory for when the sun cools off. Spotted Moth $14.99
4. I got a handful of samples of L'oreal's new Sublime Sun Sunscreen 50 SPF, and I really like it. It soaks in quick with no oily residue. Drugstore $8.79
5. Got to have a kindle or book by your side this summer. I just got a hand-me-down first gen Kindle and I'm loving it. What's on your reading list this summer? Amazon
6. I wouldn't brave a summer of short shorts without this Jergens staple by my side. Ulta $8.99

I want: Carmelita Cookie Bars

 Carmelitas!!!
Best cookie bars you will ever taste!
I made a dessert recently and it was ooey-gooey-chocolatey-caramel-goodness. I've been wanting to make these Carmelita Cookie Bars for quite some time now, but every time I went to the store to get my ingredients they didn't have the most important one...the caramel squares! Ralph's didn't have them, Albertsons, Vons, or Pavilions! What do people do if they want to make caramel apples or homemade candy? Why was this happening to me?!?

After a small panic attack, I called the one person I know that would be able to solve my caramel crisis, my mother, and of course she did--she swooped up two bags of them at Wal Mart for me. So the lesson here is if you can't find the caramel squares needed for this recipe, go to Wal Mart...and call your mom, just because.

Ingredients:
32 caramel squares, unwrapped
1/2 cup heavy cream
3/4 cup butter, melted
3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
1 cup flour
1 cup rolled oats
1 teaspoon baking soda
6 ounces semisweet chocolate chips

Directions:
Combine caramels and cream in a small saucepan over low heat. Stir until completely smooth; set aside.

In a separate bowl, combine melted butter, brown sugar, flour, oats, and baking soda.
Pat half of the oatmeal mixture into the bottom of an 8x8" pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.
Remove pan from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over crust.
Pour caramel mixture over chocolate chips.

Crumble remaining oatmeal mixture over caramel. Return to oven and bake an additional 15-20 minutes, until the edges are lightly browned. Remove from oven and cool completely before cutting.

It takes several hours for the Carmelitas to completely cool because of all that piping hot caramel. And they truly must be cooled to be able to cut and serve as cookie bars. So to speed up the process you could pop them in the fridge, but don't let them get below room temperature...no one likes hard caramel. I cut mine into brownie size pieces, but I would recommend even smaller 3-4 bite squares, since this is a very rich dessert.

Enjoy!!!

I want: Trina Turk for Banana Republic

Who doesn't love the bright and bold prints by the oh-so-talented designer Trina Turk? Usually I walk past her collections in a department store and sigh, fantasizing about owning just one of her patterned dresses or walking down a white sand beach in one of her stunning cover ups. But good news, Trina is now bringing her collection to Banana Republic! It unveils June 7th in BR stores and from what I hear there is going to be an advanced full-price pre-sale on Gilt before hand. The collection will range from $34.50-$150, which is definitely better priced than her normal line at Bloomys, but it's still a bit steep for a lot of us. I thought it would be fun to take one look from Trina Turk for Banana Republic's summer lookbook as inspiration for a Look For Less post!

This looks is a perfect summer day at the beach look. It's classy resort wear with bright pops of color and simple layers. Here is my Look for Less.

A. The key to this look is the bold tropical print bathing suit. I love this one from ASOS, the top and bottom are each under $30.

B. Layered over the bikini bottoms are a tailored orange short. I think this linen-short with tulip waist is great and super affordable from Forever 21.

C.This look also has two headpieces. The first layer is a coordinating scarf that picks up the colors of the bathing suit but with a slightly more abstract pattern. This Echo "perched parrots" scarf from Nordstrom replicates the colors and pattern of the suit without being too matchy-matchy.

D.Over the top of the scarf is a trimmed fedora. It gives the look a relaxed, almost-Bahamian edge. I think this straw fedora with crochet accent from Forever 21 accomplishes the same look. But I also love this one with the orange flower!

E. And no beach look is complete without some diva sunglasses. These are perfect for throwing in your beach bag, plus with a price that low, who cares if they fall in the ocean!

I want: to make more time

So it's official.

Wedding planning and all the bajillion things that go with it have completely consumed my life.
I said it. And I'm somewhat ashamed. But boy is it hard to not let all the million details fog your mind. I feel as though in a given free moment I'm either flustered by all the things I need to figure out or neck deep in bridal inspiration on my Pinterest. PS Pinterest is still the best thing since sliced bread, and tampons, and DVR.

In between being completely obsessed by which cocktail table vases to buy and getting in my daily cardio and weights at the gym, I've realized that I was absolutely and utterly missing Bumble and Bear. I miss writing it, finding inspiration for it, and keeping up with all the inspiring bloggers who got me to do this in the first place.

I have so much to share, so much inspiration, and so much excitement it's almost selfish of me not to write it all down.

This post might be a little manic, I kind of feel like I'm talking to a best friend I haven't chatted with in forever. I just want to share so much!

Biggest news? We booked our honeymoon! For the past couple months we have been doing countless research on different locations, their weather patterns, the prices, the activities, the food. It was exciting and stressful at the same time. Since Gavin and I haven't traveled much, this trip is going to be extra special. We wanted to have a brand new experience together, travel to a place neither of us have been, but at the same time have peace of mind and get loads of relaxation in. I think we chose the perfect place, a stress-free, luxurious 5-star resort on the Riviera Maya. We'll be leaving just a couple days after the wedding, which I think is awesome! I can't wait to walk on the soft, white-sand beaches and drink frozen cocktails in the sun.

Where did you honeymoon? Was it a hard decision? Would you change anything if you could go back?

In non-wedding news, spring and summer fashions are upon us and I am drooling over every store display. The bright florals, soft feminine details, and bold color blocking I'm seeing everywhere are just to die for.
I am on a huge coral kick right now. I just bought this lacy top at H&M and I can't wait to pair it with other bold colors. It's part of H&M's new Conscious Collection which features feminine pieces made with organic cottons and other sustainable fabrics. And the best part? The prices are amazing!

I was also recently inside an Old Navy purchasing some work-out wear and I was surprised to see that they now carry jewelry. And really cute jewelry. Prices are along the lines of Forever 21 or H&M but the stuff looks nicer. They had a whole section of nautical inspired pieces, the like of which you'd think you were looking at inside of a J Crew. Their website unfortunately doesn't carry any of the pieces they have in stores, so you're going to have to pop in the store to see them. I got two beautiful pairs of earrings which I've already worn a few times. Love love love!

And last but not least, since we are beyond our 6 month mark for the wedding, I have been trying to eat healthy and exercise every day. And I wanted to share an amazing recipe that tends to curb my "snack attacks" in a healthier manner than a bag of chips.

Sweet and Salty Roasted Chickpeas
1 can (14 oz) chickpeas (garbanzo beans), drained and rinsed
2 teaspoons olive oil
1 teaspoon cinnamon or your spice(s) of choice
1 1/2 teaspoons brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt

Place chickpeas on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil or a Silpat.
Bake at 450 F for 30 minutes. (You don't oil or season them until after they are done). Transfer chickpeas to a bowl and mix thoroughly with the rest of the ingredients.

Lately I've been doing just a sprinkle of sea salt and cracked pepper. Mmmm!

I want: the perfect pout

The color red and pink are omnipresent at the moment (because of VDay) so I thought it'd be fun to honor the beautiful array of reds and pinks by dishing about Lips favorite accessory: lip stick and gloss.

Do you wear something on your lips everyday? Do you do color or do you go au naturel? What's your nighttime hue? How do you keep your pout soft and healthy?

Here are my favorite pout perfecters!

I slap this on every night before I go to sleep to keep my lips from cracking in the dry night air. Besides being the perfect chap-stick, it's also a great on dry cuticles and I even use a tiny dab to stop the friction when my super-cute-but-not-so-comfy heels start to rub my feet raw. I'm sure I've blogged about it before, but it really is the best! Aquaphor $6

I finally gave into the hype and tried out Fresh: Tinted Lip Treatment SPF 15 and all of my hopes and dreams were well beyond exceeded. This stuff is perfect to slide on for all day color and comfort! I LOVE the Sugar Plum hue, it looks dark in the tube, but its subtle and sexy on your lips. Sephora $22.50

I hate when glosses are too sticky and flyaway hairs glue to your lips every time you walk outside. My favorite gloss at the moment is Napoleon Perdis's Luminous Lip Veil in Coral Island. The packaging, applicator, and product all get A+ from me. I love the slight fruity aroma as it goes on and it leaves your lips shiny and shimmery and smooth--no sticky mess here. Napoleon Perdis $23

When I want bold color I seem to always find myself at the MAC counter. I appreciate their lower price point and their vast array of hues. I really love their Sheen Supreme Lipstick. It's a nice combo of lipstick and sheen. Goes on smooth but brings the bold color of traditional lipstick. I rock this stick in "Fashion City." It's a nice neutral coral, good for day or night. MAC $14.50

Do you have any good drug store lipstick recommendations? I'd love to try them out!
